At its core the Homebaker app is a note taking tool for home bakers that want to keep track of their bread recipes and baking sessions. Keeping detailed notes while baking is one of the best ways to perfect your bread baking processes. Baking notes can help you understand the variables that influence your bread, such as temperature, time and the use of different ingredients. Notes also make it easy to replicate great baking results loaf after loaf.
In the Homebaker app you can create your own bread baking recipes and easily calculate baker's percentages and dough hydration. You can add detailed instructions to each baking step and also add metadata, such as temperatures. You can also make your bread baking recipes public and share them via a URL.
In the baking sessions section you can add a session to keep a detailed log of all baking steps. You can either create baking steps manually or pre-fill a baking session using a recipe you've created. You can add an image to each baking step, as well as to each baking session, which is helpful, e.g. when comparing how much your dough has risen during bulk fermentation.
For each baking session and baking step you can add:
For each baking step you can also add the following metadata:
In the free version of the Homebaker app you can create an unlimited amount of baking sessions, but the number of recipes you can create is limited. Additionally, the paid subscription enables you to access the Homebaker web app, so that you can use all features in your browser. With your Pro subscription you also support the development of the app!
When adding a new baking session, either from the baking session overview page or from the home page, you can select a recipe that you want to link to a baking session. When you've selected a recipe, a toggle should appear to enable or disable pre-filling the session with steps from the recipe.
Once a baking session has been created you can still link a recipe to the session to be able to easily view the recipe while baking. The ability to pre-fill baking steps, however, is only available when adding a new session.
You can delete a recipe, baking session or baking step on the edit page, on which you can also add the details for a recipe, session or step. You will find the "Delete" button in the top right corner of the page.
On the home page, tap on the "Settings" icon in the top right corner of the screen. Enable or disable the time format toggle to choose the time format you want to use.

When you add timer duration to a baking step's metadata, you can subsequently schedule push notifications for the step using this duration. To schedule a notification, tap on a step in a session to open the step details bottom sheet. If you've set a timer duration, you'll see a button next to "Meta data" called "Timer notification". Tapping on the button opens a confirmation dialog that shows you the step title, as well as the time for which the push notification will be scheduled. Tap on "Add" to schedule the push notification.
